 ABOUT CETACEANS
  • Monitor cetacean populations using a network of fixed hydrophones.

  • Increase ecological and demographic knowledge of humpback whale populations and their importance in Polynesian culture.

CHARACTERIZE ANTHROPOGENIC PRESSURES ON CETACEANS
  • Characterization of anthropogenic pressures within the Polynesian sanctuary.

  • Identification of areas of interaction between habitats, migration routes and human pressures on humpback whales.

  • Anti-collision program on major shipping routes using on-board Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs).

STRENGTHENING THE OBSERVER NETWORK THROUGH TRAINING AND AWARENESS-RAISING
  • Establishment of a marine mammal observer training program recognized in French Polynesia.

  • Training for the socio-economic players involved: shipowners, tourist service providers, maritime cluster, etc.

  • Strengthening of participatory science with the general public: promotion of land-based observations.

  • Raising awareness among all school children via our brand-new OMM KIDS educational program, turning children into real observers!

MAKING FRENCH POLYNESIA A REAL PLAYER IN CETACEAN PROTECTION 
  • Consultation with decision-makers, dialogue with stakeholders and implementation of regulations/management measures.

  • Promotion of results obtained in French Polynesia through the publication of scientific articles. 

  • Participation in regional and international meetings to represent the voice of French Polynesia.
